This text will be in English because I have an English computer. Sorry for any bad gramma!
I have had so many questions sent to me and wondering what we are doing now and where we are in the world. I will in this text explain a bit about our homeschooling life. We are doing other things also with the Christian ministry that we are involved in, but I will not speak about it here. I will focus on the homeschooling part of our life.
We are still homeschooling, praise the Lord! And we have not moved back to Sweden. In Sweden it is still forbidden to homeschool, and we do not have a plan, at all, to move back.
To leave Sweden and go anywhere else to homeschool is worth it! I know that many people are thinking about doing it but haven’t taken the step yet.
So, I will say it again: IT IS WORTH IT! All days of the week.
We do miss Sweden, we do miss the family, friends, nature and food, but I would never move back. The freedom that homeschooling bring is worth it.
From last time I wrote here we moved from Denmark and back to Sweden awhile but then back to England and have been in England now for a couple of years. It is a great country to homeschool in, so much freedom. We don’t have any checkups at all, and we are living so free. Travel around wherever and whenever we want. We are following a Christian curriculum that we love and that makes it easy to bring wherever we are going. Since last time I wrote we have been in Ireland, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, South Africa, USA and drove through all the countries between Sweden and England.
We are swimming every week, play with friends, bake, cook, go to the park, enjoying life to the fullest. Today we did some shopping, went for a walk and picked autumn leafs, made an apple and rasberry crumble, played a game and just spent time together.
Recently I have heard so much about what is going on in schools and all the things that children are forced to learn that we, as a family of God, do not agree with. It is not just Christians who disagree with things being taught in school, but people everywhere are seeing it and do not want to have a part of it. Also, suicides are going up, depression, anxiety, bullying is wider spread, and I do not want our boys to have a part of that.
It is so beautiful how a life without formal schooling is. To be able to sleep until fully rested, to eat when we are hungry, take breaks when we want. Some days we do school in the morning and someday in the evening. Some weeks we do it on a Saturday instead because we have other things to do during the week. We cook together, we eat together, we dance, laugh, go on long walks, play in the playground, do shopping and play games. No stress, no anxiety. The peace of God fills the house wherever we live.
My husband works away a lot and makes this life possible for us. He is an amazing man that loves God and his family, we are so blessed. The boys help me in the house, and it is seldom any murmuring about it. They have the heart of God, and they are so kind, lovely, caring and super funny boys. To be able to see them grown and put good habits in place is such a privilege.
This would be harder if they were in school with all the influence from people that are not always a good influence. Now I know that they have godly good people around them, great role models, both men and women.
To homeschool your children doesn’t mean that they are isolated. I think this is something that many Swedish people are worried about. We are not sitting inside and never meet any people. That is not homeschooling! We bring them out in the world, both to playgrounds, activities, museum, shopping, for walks, drive or fly to other countries, visit friends and so so so so much more. We also go out into the streets to evangelise and help people in the community. Recently they started a group on Discord with their friends where they are going to teach a bibleclass!! We live and learn together, not restricted to a building, but freedom.
The boys find friends everywhere and with all kinds of ages. They have adult friends, friends that are their age or younger or older. One beauty with homeschooling is that they do not think about the age gap with friends. They see the person and not the age.
Another beauty is that they have time to dive into what they like. Really dive in without any interruption. My oldest son loves Pokémon and Star Wars. And he knows all the is about it and can talk about it for hours. Make his own games with it, doing books and painting. My youngest love to paint and he is so good at it, he has learned from scratch and his paintings is so amazing.
What is the sum of it? Homeschooling is sharing life and beauty together. Raising up the children that God have given us and take responsibility to the fullest.
Should I change any of this? Or am I afraid that they will fail in their life? NO, absolutely not! Not even one bit. I am raising up warriors in this time and age and they will do great things for the world and for God. I will never regret that I took hold of their childhood and made the most of it.
I will never regret that I took them out to the forest with a picknick. That we played games and laughed, that we cooked together and that I am able to see them grow up to men that will change this world!
